Credibility = Currency
Every business must start somewhere. But building instant credibility is essential, especially when customers have a worldwide web to search. If potential customers don’t think you are a credible business, they won’t ‘risk’ doing business with you, and you won’t be giving your start-up the best chance of success. First impressions matter.
Here are some telltale signs that you are new, or even worse…not serious about your business. Avoid the pitfalls that come with ‘That’ll do” and build your credibility quickly.
Business Email Address
An email address that reflects the company name is a must. It is not expensive to have a business email that is @yourcompany.com. If you are using a Gmail account (even if it is firstname.lastname@example.org) you seem like a little fish in a big sea.
Google Business Profile Page
There is no cost to set up a Google Business Profile page for your company (yes, it is sometimes cumbersome), but this is where many people go to vet out a business. I once had a peer tell me they would not use any company that didn’t have a Google business page, as they viewed companies without one to be illegitimate. That was one person. Imagine how many others might feel that way, and how many potential customers you could lose.
To be viewed as trustworthy, every company must have a website. Depending on your business, it doesn’t have to have all the bells and whistles, but it should provide information about your company, products/services offered, and highlight a way to contact you.
A website is a double-edged sword because while a basic website is better than none, a website you threw together yourself in the wee hours of the day is sometimes worse than not having a website at all. If your website doesn’t enhance your credibility, it’s damaging it.
Social Media Presence
There are so many social media platforms. While Instagram is great for a bakery or a clothing boutique, dentists may find LinkedIn and Facebook a better fit for their practice. Your focus should be ensuring that your business has an appropriate social media presence for your industry.
